Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day. Get a tween off to a great morning with these fun breakfast ideas.

Tweens often times find it necessary to cook breakfast either for family members or as a last-minute meal out the door on a school day. Many children also like to prepare breakfast for a parent's birthday, Mother's Day and Father's Day, and other special occasions. Depending on the age of the child and the difficulty of the recipe, adult supervision is often recommended. If a child will be using a stove or hot surface, this should always be the case.

Unlike the days of the past when moms and dads had to smile while trying to eat burnt toast or drink juice filled with pulp, there are now many kid-friendly recipes for tweens to make. There are two main groups of food that are now easily prepared by children. You can consider a prepackaged meal or a simple homemade meal. Consider that either type can be a lot of fun for a tween to pull together in the kitchen.

Prepackaged Breakfast Meals

If choosing a prepackaged meal, consider waffles or breakfast sandwiches. Waffles can make a great meal, especially when topped with fruit or other toppings to give them a delicious taste. Tweens may also enjoy preparing breakfast sandwiches, which can be prepared in the microwave, and accompanied by hash browns (also prepared in a microwave). Either choice can make for a great meal.

Tweens might also consider a quick fruit and yogurt parfait. This can be prepared easily and with very little, if any, assistance. With just a few bags of fruit and a tub of yogurt, a child can build a unique flavorful delicacy. It is also very nutritious, giving a tween the energy needed to get through until lunchtime.

Simple Homemade Recipes

Fun meals to make with tweens provide many tasty options. Consider an easy baking treat like muffins or breads. Most can be purchased in a package that only requires a few common ingredients. If a waffle iron is available, it can also be fun to mix up flavored waffles from scratch. Just add some blueberries or strawberries to a basic waffle recipe for a great taste.

Making a designer plate is always fun for tweens. Use eggs, bacon or sausage, and mini pancakes to make a smiley face. Most ingredients will need to be cooked by an adult, but designing the plate can be a blast, considering that there are many funny faces that can be made.

Find Even More Breakfast Recipes

During a search for the many recipes available, be sure to include cookbooks for kids, as well as websites online. Many sites cater specifically to children and even offer monthly newsletters for a constant stream of new recipes. Many also offer ideas for specific theme days for a tween to organize a menu for a future date.

For an older tween (11 and 12 years of age), it can be fun to put together a full meal plan and even let him do the shopping. This can be a great way to learn the process of preparing meals. Let him pick the food, buy the groceries, prepare the meal, and even handle the serving. Parents will be amazed at the confidence booster this process can provide.
