Children with December birthdays often think they're cheated out of a real party. With preparations already going on, why not make the birthday part of the holiday?
Families with December babies have a lot to juggle every year with holidays and birthdays. Sometimes the stress of the season results in parties being thrown together or not happening at all. Using the holidays as the inspiration and not the frustration can make everyone happier. Ice Skating PartiesThink of an ice skating party as a party with a winter wonderland theme. Hold a party at a local skating rink and allow kids to skate the night away. Facilities even offer their own party packages complete with food and drinks. Cake is usually not included in the package. While this is a fun party, it can also be a bit pricey. An average cost for a party of 14 kids is about two hundred dollars. Christmas CraftsThis party idea is one for children of all ages. Rather than playing games, guests can make Christmas crafts instead. The simplest crafts would be the single pre-packaged kits that can be purchased at the local craft store. Besides the kits, the wooden or ceramic ornaments that are ready to be painted are also quick and easy to use. To make the crafts more personal, take instant photos of the guests and have them design holiday picture frames. Attach a piece of string and make an ornament for the tree. Other party activities could include stringing popcorn or make green and red paper chains. Decorating Gingerbread HousesThis is another fun idea that brings out the cake decorator in everyone. There are several ways to make this a success either as teams or individuals. The first way is to have guests work in teams and set up the activity like a food challenge. Determine how many guests there will be and divide them evenly. With 20 guests, there would be five groups of four or four groups of five. Buy enough gingerbread house kits to cover the number of teams. In addition to the contents of the kits, provide extra icing, sprinkles, toppings and candies. Give teams one hour to decorate their houses. Encourage creativity. Another way to host this type of party is to purchase enough of the little gingerbread people for each guest to have one. Make sure to provide the same types of decorations. No time limit will be set and each guest will take one home as the party favor. Having a birthday in December doesn't have to mean children are cheated out of a celebration. An easy solution is to fold the holiday or winter theme into the party itself. It not only makes for easy decorations and eliminates some of the stress on parents, but also shows the kids they can have double the fun on their birthdays.
