St. Patrick's Day is a fun time for tweens, and can be especially enjoyable when it offers the opportunity to complete craft projects. Here are some ideas to get started.

St. Patrick’s Day is almost here. The “Luck of the Irish" day is a day celebrated around the world. Why not do some fun crafts geared especially for tweens this “green” day? Here are a few projects that will set the mood for this fun holiday.

Shamrock Craft

Materials:

  • Ordinary sandwich bread, right out of the bag, with the crust cut off
  • Craft glue
  • Paint
  • Glitter
  • Small magnet strips
  • Shamrock cookie cutters

Directions:

  1. Tear two slices of bread into small pieces on a paper plate, then add about 1 teaspoon of craft glue to the bread. Squish the bread and glue with hands until it forms dough.
  2. Smooth out the dough on a flat surface and use cookie cutters to make shamrock shapes. Let the dough air-dry, which usually takes about 24 hrs.
  3. You don’t have to wait until it dries to decorate it though. Paint the shamrocks with green paint and sprinkle with gold glitter to give them a sparkling affect.
  4. When the dough dries, glue small magnet strips to the back of them so they can be put on the fridge or other magnetic surface.

This craft is perfect for the family refrigerator or to hold important papers in a tween's locker.

"Don't Pinch Me" Pins

Adult supervision recommended

Materials:

  • Glue gun
  • Pin backings (can be purchased at any major crafts store)
  • Pins can be made out of several different items, such as green construction paper, ribbon, foam craft sheets, green jewels or stones. Make sure the supplies used are the color green.

Directions:

The pins are simple to construct.

  1. Create the front of the pin in any shape or style desired.
  2. Use a glue gun to attach the pin to the back.

The pin should be worn on St. Patrick's Day to school so that a tween will not get pinched for not having any green on that day. She better wear green clothing, too, just in case!

End of the Rainbow Craft

Create your own riches at the end of the rainbow. Make little pots of gold that are not only easy to make, but what is inside is yummy to eat.

Materials:

  • Little black pots (can be purchased at any craft store)
  • Gold wrapped chocolate medallions (can be purchased at a local grocery store).
  • Green and gold glitter paint
  • Green ribbon

Directions:

  1. Paint shamrocks or gold squiggles on the black pots using glitter glue.
  2. Tie a single green ribbon around the neck of the pot for a classy effect.
  3. Fill pots with chocolate medallions.

A tween will have fun passing these completed crafts out to friends on St. Patrick's Day.

These crafts will make St. Patrick’s Day memorable and loads of fun tweens. They are really easy to make and have purpose for celebrating the day.
