This is the time of year when days are shorter, so getting a tween out of bed for school when it is still dark outside might be a challenge! Here are some tips to help.

How many times does your tween's alarm clock go off before they are actually ready to get out of bed? With the season change to autumn comes darker mornings, and most tweens are not ready to get up without the sun. Short of pouring water on my kids heads, here are some tips that I find particularly helpful in getting them up:

Make their favorite breakfast. By giving your teen a reason to get up, you might help make the day seem a little more exciting.

Send them to bed a little earlier. Tweens have an internal clock that is way different their ours. They need more sleep, so sending them to bed just 15 minutes earlier may make the difference!

Be organized the night before. This may seem weird, but if you have your tween's clothes laid out, lunch already packed, and school bag ready to go, it may motivate him to get out of bed. He may even be able to catch a favorite cartoon before the bus arrives.

If you have tactics that you know work well, please let readers know! You can post your ideas at the Parenting Tweens Discussion Board.
